Posted by Henry on January 5th, 2010 I have been doing some research to see which of the servers on the market today is considered the best buy. I have been doing this because I am thinking of opening up a coffee house in my building. Just about every person in the other thirty offices stops off at some coffee house or restaurant before coming in every morning.
My plan is to put that coffee house downstairs, where they have to walk right by it before getting on the elevator and cashing in on some of that coffee drinking. I have already talked with the dell repair store that is across the street and they have let me know how much it would be to put in all the computer stuff I would need.
I think that I may go with the poweredge servers since they have gotten good reviews and they are priced reasonably. It may be that the poweredge servers are not the perfect choice; I am going to have to check with the dell repair store and clear it with them. I want to make sure that all the equipment that I get, they know how to install and repair. It would not do me any good to buy stuff that the computer guys across the street cannot fix when it needs to be fixed.
Posted by Henry on January 4th, 2010 I may need to contact the used point of sale equipment company and see if they can send me some replacement pens for our credit card machines. It seems that a lot of my customers think that they can yank on the string that connects to the reader when they have to put in their pin numbers or sign the screen. I have replaced the pens a few times and ordered extra before, but now I am out again.
The used pos equipment site offers the pens in bulk and I believe that I may need to order a few different packs for now. I have wanted to place the order for a few weeks now, seeing that the new pens that I had installed about three weeks ago were already starting to come lose. I left the unattached pens there after they finally broke off, since they still would work and someone stole one of them and apparently a girl from the cleaning crew threw the other ones away thinking they were trash.
I have given my staff strict instructions to pay attention to all customers when they are checking out as soon as we get the used point of sale equipment sites order back and I install the pens once again. It has almost become a joke between the used pos equipment staff and me since they already know what I am calling to order before I get a chance to tell them.
Posted by Henry on December 31st, 2009 My boss put me in charge of making sure the office ran very smoothly while he was on vacation for three weeks. I was not worried about anything going wrong, except for the servers. We had been having a little bit of trouble with the servers a few months ago and they were fixed by some outside technicians.
Now though, for the past two week, they had been going down and our house technician would have to spend a few hours getting them back online. As long as they stayed up and running, I was looking forward to my boss taking his vacation. The assistant manager to the office suggested that we have some used poweredge servers put in while the boss was away and I told him that I did not think it would be a good idea.
He started telling me that the used servers he had seen online would be really cheap and they would not go down as much as the ones we had right now. I told him that if he signed off on it and kept me out of the whole deal, that I did not care if he put in used poweredge servers or not. I was just hoping that I did not lose my job over the installation of the used servers when my boss got back.

Posted by Henry on December 30th, 2009 My favorite model of used hp servers is the Integrity series but it seems that those are becoming increasingly harder to find and I need two right now to put into my new store. I may just get some used proliant servers to install right now and then order some Integrity’s for when the other ones take a turn for the worse. I would think that I at least have a couple of years to find a good deal on the other used hp servers that I really want.
I have found a good website that offers good prices on great used hp servers that have been refurbished. They have a great sales team and fast delivery options. I have even used their repair service for some of my routers that had the local repair companies stumped. They had them fixed and back to me within four days, good as new. I may even have to use them to fix the laptops that seem to be giving everyone trouble lately when they turn themselves off in the middle of someone working on them.
Anyway, I am ordering the used proliant servers for now and then watching for a good deal on Integrity’s. I hope that I can find the new ones before the old ones go out completely.
Posted by Henry on December 21st, 2009 My cisco repair man is retiring after being in the business for thirty years. I think he must have been one of the first to offer any sort of in house computer repair. He opened a separate business about ten years later that offered used cisco products. I know that most of the area repairmen bought a lot of their supplies for their clients in his store.
I will be sad to be losing him, but he has passed his businesses to his two grandsons. They both were raised working for their grandfather and they were looking to expand the business to neighboring counties as soon as they took it over completely. I will continue to call on the same cisco repair man phone number, but it will be a new set of technicians that come out and assess the problems or bring me the used cisco parts that are needed to fix my systems.
If there is one thing that my secretaries will miss about the old cisco repair man, it will be the way that he brought them cookies and candy every Christmas. If his grandsons know how to keep the customers/ladies happy then they will do the same exact thing.
Posted by Henry on November 10th, 2009 Our entire system needed to be upgraded so I set out to find an inexpensive upgrade computer MI company that could do it for us properly. I had upgraded our system about four years ago and it was after getting the bill for that job, that I knew I could not afford to do it again for a long time.
I had been saving every month to hire a cheaper but knowledgeable upgrade computer MI company. I looked online and in the phone book till I saw a company that I recognized. I had seen their television commercials and they promised to give you fast service and they guaranteed the lowest prices in town.
I called them to come out and handle all the upgrades and install the Vipre antivirus that I had read so much about on their website. I had an old outdated antivirus on our system and worried every day that some kind of virus or Trojan horse would come along that it could not handle. This way, with the upgrades and the Vipre antivirus, I would be like having a whole new computer system. If they do this job for less than any other company in town, then I will be the first to recommend them to any other companies that think they need upgrades or repairs and cannot afford too much.
Posted by Henry on August 28th, 2009 Some of the entrepreneurs prefer rentals to direct purchase of equipments even when they are going to buy used Cisco products instead of the new ones. There are multiple models of Cisco products that could be rented out for short periods like a month or so. However, you have to be on the look out for the models since the rentals are limited to only the particular models of equipment. This effectively means that all types of used Cisco equipments are not available for rentals.
Other part is consultation. When you decide to buy some Cisco product, whether new or used, it would be good for you to consult the experts in the trade. They know the equipments like the back of their hands and can guide you effectively with apt and timely advice on the purchase or rental as the case may be.
Such consultation will be required when you have to find out through survey and check up whether you require new equipments or some repair works like the Cisco repair. The consultations will help you sort out all your immediate concerns. They can provide you with remedies for your instant problems, and will guide you to the right path. You will be able to know whether repairs will do the trick or you are to go for necessary replacement.
Even when the major chances are required in respect of the equipments as well as the entire networking environment, such consultation can show you the path.
Posted by Henry on August 27th, 2009 When there were two different used pseries servers listed in the paper for sale, I thought that it was a little strange. I also knew that there were four used ibm computers in there also. It is not every day that you come across those things and the fact that they all had different phone numbers to call was odd too.
I then learned from my neighbor that a local company had layed off about four hundred workers and they felt so bad about it, that they let some of the workers with more seniority take the office equipment to sell for a little extra cash. They knew that they were not going to be able to open their doors ever again and did not need them.
I thought that it was very nice of that company; they gave people part of the business that had failed them. I would think that the used pseries servers could bring in a pretty good price. I guess that they gave them to the foreman.
The people that were lower on the totem pole got the used ibm computers. It could bring them a few hundred extra dollars and that would help a little, or until they could find a new job. More companies should think about doing something like this.
